Should Sofia Coppola Take Over Louis Vuitton Handbags?

You might remember back in September I listed Sofia Coppola`s top handle design (the Doctor bag gone fabulous!) for Louis Vuitton handbags to be one of the top 5 no-brainer classic handbags. At the time it was just off the shelves, barely known, yet I had a feeling about it. After coming across the Louis Vuitton Slim Clutch designed by Coppola recently, the feeling is even stronger. This girl is hot! Look out for anything deigned by her for Louis Vuitton. I`m telling you, it`s destined for all the must have lists.



Now don`t get me wrong here, I LVOE Marc Jacobs. I`d marry him, harbour him as a fugitive, wear anything he made, I`d give away all my Louis Vuitton replica just to meet him….(have I made my point yet?) But, with these classics coming from not Marc, but Sophia, I have to wonder, what would happen is Sofia Coppola took over as creative director? I mean she`s just so good!

Coppola has been a long time friend of Marc Jacobs, both growing up in New York in a fully arts scene. In 2002 she was the face of his new fragrance of perfume. In 2008 she, along with her father Francis Ford Coppola were featured in the Louis Vuitton core values ad campaign. (It was always one of my favourites, that and the Madonna Paris bistro shots, remember those?). Coppola`s start in fashion actually began with an internship at Chanel when she was 15 (oh how I`d love to have done that!). Her designs for Louis Vuitton actually stemmed from happenstance. She was visiting the LV factory outside of Paris to discuss a custom made handbag when the conversation turned to her designing a few items to her taste. Why not? She apparently left thrilled at the idea.

Sofia Coppola`s marvellous designs for Louis Vuitton debuted in March last year, to massive appreciation, yet they seem to be just now catching on for real. (The first Louis Vuitton replica versions are apparently just around the corner!)

Coppola says the collection is inspired by Lauren Hutton, who she says is her fashion ideal, and described them as matching her own personal style, “non-attention-grabbing”. The day bag is practical but quietly posh. “I`m not a big fan of It bags you can recognize a mile away,” she says. “Showing off is not my thing. I wanted something simple, and Louis Vuitton gave me the freedom to do just that.” Personally, I love the results. It`s exactly to my taste—understated, but chic to the max!
